You know it’s soon Halloween?

Sure, it’s not something we really celebrate here in Norway, not in the American sense of the phenomenon or whatever you’d call it (but there’s a tradition to visit your beloved in the graveyard and light a candle for them, at least among the eldery)…but…well, I’m pretty easily influenced and stuff soo…

Here’s a mini I created long time ago (but actually never shared…I think…hoped to have it pubbed but it wasn’t picked up then I forgot all about it :p) using Pink Paislee’s Hocus Pocus-collection with quite a bit of Hambly screenprints mixed in.

The mini used was, hmm… I’m not quite sure w/o looking at the specific supplylistpaper, which I’m too lazy to do atm, might have been Poppydesign? It’s a 6x6 with rounded corners, quite generic actually, so might have been one of many brands nevertheless :p

Just had some silly fun with the concept of Halloween & Shakespeare…

Right. Next thing on the list:

This week Glue Arts is collaborating with Clear Scraps, and I got this funky clearshaped..uhm…shape…thing..called XL Deco shape….plus a transparent sheet to work with. There’s a small tutorial-ish piece on some parts of this layout on the Glue Art blog, as well as the usual giveaway :)

For this one I dug up lots of my old faves – Hambly rubons, Making Memories journaling tag (the scallopcircle one I used for the title), a mix of Prima and Kort&Godt flowers, some of my favorite 3ndypapir-papers, letters from American Crafts, bling from KaiserCraft and ribbons and button from Crate Paper (I guess they’re the newest SB-things here on this layout).

Oh, and a punch from Martha Stewart…I purchased a new one – the big scallop-fan-thingie. I really love that one, but after using it like, twice or so, it looks like the metal springs refuse to work properly – at least it takes double the work & some wiggling in between each punch. Hrmm. I guess I could try oiling the springs, but I’m afraid that’ll cause lots of oilspills on the papers for a good long while…? I purchased it on sale from a store that folded, so I highly doubt I can get a replacement, bleh..

Nevertheless…..love that I finally got around to use the Hambly rubons and that these hadn’t dried out. The Glue Art Raisen’s are perfect for the transparency – you’ll hardly see it through the transparency and it yields such nice dimension to the project to :)

And here’s a project I did for Glue Arts last week – a hair clip/barrette holder made w/an empty box (mine’s from zutter). I’ve made one my daughter’s using a few years ago…I think I’ll keep this and fill it w/new hairclips – it’s soon her best friends birthday, and it’ll make a cute minigift methinks. I used a mix of Crate Paper’s Neighborhood and Emma’s Shoppe for this one. While I think it turned out a bit too busy, I believe little girls will love it nevertheless. I hope.

Right. Weekend, sweet weekend. Might drop by the summerplace sometime this weekend, plus I’ve got a few (cough) photos to edit now =) Can’t wait to share more amazing photos from the big Tove+Trym celebration! :)

So, Saturday came and went – we had a wonderful day - especially Amalie, who turned six… she already had gotten her present from us – a bicycle – so this morning she just got some smaller pressies from us and her brother (a locket necklace from this artist – her cousin got a similar one, only with a lighthaired girl :p, and a Hello,Kitty DS-game..while I love the locket and the artist (and more important, Amalie loves it too), it’s unfortunately not too sturdy so I probably need to get it refitted into a better necklace or fix the jump ring or something so the locket will stop falling from the necklace :/).

We had Easter-dinner where we invited some family-members, and she got more pressies…here’s the book she got from my mother – she loves Oistein, a Norwegian artist/drawer who’s featured on the children’s television where he shows children easy steps to do fun drawings..(“he’s so, so, so good!” quote Amalie)

Later that afternoon grandmother and her cousin arrived too, straight from the summerplace, and with even more gifts. A great day for her indeed.

A while ago I received an email from Sue Mylde, also known as Missusem, asking if I wanted to take part in a creative journey of hers: Words & Perspectives. Never one to say no to challenges, I accepted, and created this layout. You can find my blogpost here.

My chosen word was “jobb” – “work/job” – as this request came at a time when I had just gotten the job I now have (journalist at the local newspaper). It gave me a nice kick in the behind to document this part of my life – thank you so much for that, Sue! :)

I used mostly Pink Paislee’s Starlight-collection, along with a piece of Sassafras (the yellow polka-paper), Elle’s Studio tags and rubons from Hambly Screenprints (while I loved this colorscheme, I found it a bit too dark – so adding a white doily + white rubons helped lots imo).

Last day of the Easter-vacation…break..whatever it’s called in English..been a good one..warm..sunny…lovely..much needed….and oh, we finally finished Battlestar Galactica season4 (left it off long time ago in the beginning of season4) :p

I’m so glad you guys seem to enjoy my old tutorials :) And it feels good having them all gathered in one spot (for me). So, for todays tutorial I found this old one I did for Hambly Screenprints back in 2009. Here is the original post. I hope you’ll enjoy it :)

Whenever I buy clothes I always save the tags for future projects without really having any particular plans for them. Especially if the tags are in chipboard and cute.

For todays tutorial I figured it was about time to clean out some of the tags & the Hambly scrap-box at the same time.
Here's what you need:
Tags in various sizes
Leftover-scraps
Passport-photos
Small bits & pieces of chipboard, buttons, stickers etc. Today's about cleaning up and using some of the stuff you got lying around =)
Adhesive of choice. I used double-sided tape.
Scissors & exacto knife
Crop-a-Dile
Gesso
Bookbinder-ring

Assemble a number of tags. Don't worry about the different sizes or thickness.

Apply adhesive on the tags (make sure you cover up the "ugly" side) & dress them up with papers. Trim to fit.

Repeat with the rest of the tags.

Apply gesso on the backside of the tags (the "pretty" side) if you want to use them for journaling. Let dry. Punch holes and put on a ring.

Place photo(s) and 2-3 embellishments together. Adhere.

Gather the tags together and bind it with a bookbinder-ring or ribbon. Tadah :) You now got yourself a cute and sturdy little tag-album you can put in your bag :)

I feel the itch to make a mini or two again soon! I did one a few weeks ago, but am hoping to get it picked up, so can’t share it yet… am in Oslo atm attending DOK:11 (a Norwegian photofestival for pressphotographers) & meeting family and friends.. I know I’ll come back with lots of photos to scrap, but uhm, I still haven’t turned last years DOK:10 into a mini as I originally planned…..soooo eeks..need to do that first before I handle DOK:11, no? Hmm!

Welcome to another old tutorial I’ve dug up for you :)

I simply love the fact that Hambly repeats the same designs with some of their papers, transparencies and rub-ons. It gives you such amazing opportunities to really play with three-dimensionality and create the illusion of shadowing within the design!

I’ll illustrate an example with this card. To duplicate this card, you’ll need:
- White (corrugated) cardstock
- Pink cardstock
- Any design that’s available as both transparency *and* paper – here: Mini Chandeliers in Antique White Overlay and Brown Ink on White Gold Metallic Paper
- Mod Circles overlay
- Vellum
- Spellbinders Nestabilities
- Pop-up glue dots
- Needle and yarn

Pick up the Mini Chandeliers transparency and paper. Placing the transparency above the paper, determine which direction and how much “shadow” you want by skewing the transparency some.

Cut out a large enough piece for your diecut-machine and cut out the piece needed. I used a cuttlebug and cutting both paper and transparency at once was easy enough – just use a re-positionable adhesive between the transparency and paper to make the skewed position stay in place. Remove the adhesive after the cutting out.If you don't have a die-cut machine you can trace a tag or bracket or chipboard piece to get the shape or design you desire.

Adhere the die-cut on the pink cardstock, and cut around it to create a small, pink edge. Adhere the transparency straight above the paper-version by using pop-up glue dots strategically (behind the chandeliers so they won’t be too visible).

Cut and score a 11,5x5,5” rectangle of the corrugated cardstock. Cut and score 11x4,5” of the mod circles transparency. Cut and score 10x4” of the vellum.

Using a thick needle and some thin yarn, tie the card together with two (or even three or more) holes in the spine and tie the yarn on the outside with a cute bow.

Adhere the die-cut on the front page.

 

A similar example can be seen in this layout I made earlier this year using rub-ons and transparencies of the same kind of design. Rub-on on bottom and the transparency directly over the rub-on.

Again, I hope you like the idea of having the old tutorials gathered in one place…you can find a list of the tutorials in the sidebar to the right :)

Edited to add: Totally forgot I had this one scheduled for today, so was surprised when this popped up in the reader, haha. Just wanted to add this tidbit, one of my older Hambly-tutorials was featured on the handmade jewellery-club’s webpages. Cool! :)

Hooray for the Norwegian sketch-site Skissedilla, which recently celebrated 100 weeks (&sketches). Well, not really 100 sketches, but rather 99, as they decided to scrap older sketches for their 100th week :p

Congratulations, Skissedilla! I figured I had to join this one, and found this wonderful sketch by Carrin:

Once again I grabbed old stuff I had lying (hoarding is bad, folks! ;p) around – mostly Sassafras (the patterned papers – plus one strip of Pink Paislee that was lying on the table), Love, Elsie (look! the epoxy-sticker! love these, having a hard time actually using them though – need to get better at this!) and rub-ons from Hambly Screenprints.

Plus – this calendar-tag from Elle’s Studio – I’ve not used it because in my mind I thought it said 2011 on it, and I was like, gotta save it then! But for this project I thought – oh heck – let’s use it and just cover up the 11 part of 2011 w/the photo – when I noticed it did say 2010 after all. Cough. Plus! See the starburst-punch? Lovesit. It punches through cardboard and – wait for it – transparencies as well! Like cutting through butter – gotta love it :) I think I have an idea what to do w/the punch next :) Just need some time to scrap – it’s been sacred lately w/so much going on around here :(

I also found another sketch I think will be perfect for a card, I’ll see if I can find some time to scrap tomorrow…
